When is an open marriage ok?

Thursday, December 29, 2011

Last weekend Mitch and some of his buddy’s were hanging out at our home, when I was invited into their conversation. They were discussing marriage and sex, and when is it ok to have an open marriage. My first thought open marriage NO way, but then someone asked “what if you could never have sex again because of medical reasons”. Hmmmm…… Good question, I had never thought about that. Oh My, I started thinking of a million questions all at once “what if I could never have sex with my husband again?” that would break my heart. And, “is it ok for him to be sexually active with someone else?” “Would our marriage survive if you could no longer sexually satisfy his needs?” Could I knowingly allow my husband to share the intimacy with someone else?   An open marriage is NOT cheating, from my understanding the goal of an open marriage is to never have to lie, and cheating is lying. People in an open marriage really love their spouse, however need to have a fling from time to time. I know within the recent years polyamory has become very popular with celebrities. But, is it possible to maintain good relationship with your husband/wife while being in an open relationship? I am sure there are rules to in an open marriage relationship. Jealousy would be a major challenge, along with time management. It seems to me that sooner or later someone will suffer an emotional meltdown. I like my life simple and stress free I would not intentionally invite potential drama in my life. And, besides I’m horrible with managing my time………………..     So my question to you, could I knowingly allow my husband to share the intimacy with someone else?
